I found out on Wednesday that two of my friends from High School were in a serious car accident somewhere near Yuma, AZ. Although in critical condition, the doctors say Bobby is going to pull through, but Joe passed away.
I've known Joe since '94. His death not only comes to me as a shock, but a great loss. I skated with Joe many times throughout High School and at church. There are sayings that Joe started that I still say to this day.
Sadly, I haven't stayed in as much touch as I would have liked to. The last time I saw Joe was the summer of last year in Arizona.
Herb-N-Life
Fortunately, I've come to know him in a different way through the music he wrote with his band: Herb-n-Life. My brother introduced me to their music saying, "Dude, you have got to hear Joe and his band. He is passionate about his music."
There were times in High School that Joe would seem insecure. A little shy, he would keep to himself and try not to draw too much attention in public. Those insecurities vanished through his music. His songs covered everything from his view on politics to his everyday habits in life. Joe had two things in his music that I love: Creativity and passion.
While those who knew Joe close before he died have that gift, those of us who have been long distant or who never met him will not. But I believe Joe's memory can live on through his music. He was definitely a life full of potential cut too short, but what he achieved in that life will live on for others.
I told Joe (located in Arizona) that I was his East Coast distributor and fan club. I have given copies of his music to several people in my area and now I will keep these links to these songs up forever.
Download them, listen to them, and remember Joe.

Same pants every day
Certain songs tend to stick in one's head. Having listened to Herb-N-Life's songs for the past year, several lines have stuck with me. There were times I would just put the CDs on repeat.
In their song Think Too Much, Joe sings:
I could have fooled you
I'll bet you thought I was cool
I'm a f*cking nerd
I wear the same pants every day
Bumming all my smoke, 'cause I don't wanna pay
When my brother was telling me about Joe's death, I was shocked and I kept thinking over and over, "I wear the same pants every day too." I do, Joe. And the wife can't stand it.
Lines like that will stick in my head forever. You are missed, bro.
