Frank Viola has released a new book entitled Pagan Christianity: The Origins of Our Modern Church Practices.
This 300+ page book details where today's Christian practices came from. The practices covered in the book include the order of worship, the sermon, the church building, the pastor, the order of the New Testament, and much more. Interestingly enough, a lot of these practices are not in the Bible and, but rather find their roots in pagan religions (hence the title).
Scott Manning was one of several reviewers of the book before it was released to the public. "I first heard of the idea for the book back in 2000 and I have been intrigued since then," said Scott when reflecting on the concept of the book. "A book like this doesn't exist, and those who are wondering why Christians do what they do are left guessing.Luckily, Frank has gone into great lengths to include hundreds of footnotes and references for every claim he has made in the book. Readers will find those very helpful as most people will probably question him on every point made in the book."
Scott believes the detailed documentation will make this book a classic. Gene Edwards released a similar book titled Beyond Radical. It was about a fifth of the size and had no footnotes at all.
Although Scott has plenty of praise for the book, he has some criticism. "The title sucks for many reasons. Frank loves it, I think. Anyway, he said he couldn't think of a better one, so I guess we're stuck with this one."
The book is available through SeedSowers Publishing House. It will eventually be available through Amazon.
